Arizona Cardinals Stadium - Lifting Fabric Panels

Arizona Cardinals Stadium aerial view
Hanes Supply furnished the following Rigging and Lifting for Fabric Panels at the New Arizona Cardinals Stadium: Due to the capacity of the helicopter, Hanes Supply provided a 3,000 pound capacity by twenty foot Aluminum Beam. The weight of the Spreader Beam was 250 pounds. The Spreader Beam was fabricated in less than one week by Engineered Lifting Technologies, Inc. In addition, the Spreader Beam took its first flight in the air from Buffalo, New York to Phoenix, Arizona via airfreight. This was due to the tight construction jobsite schedule.

Hanes Supply also fabricated new Nylon Slings for the lift. Our EE2-803, twenty foot Nylon Slings were also air freighted to the jobsite. The Nylon Slings had a work load limit of 8,600 pounds vertical each. These items were used in the construction phase to hoist and place special roof materials into place to complete the roof construction.

The Cardinals Stadium, shown in the top image on this page, has a unique retractable roof. This roof design consists of a special translucent fabric, which covers the majority of the roof. This material allows the natural sunlight to penetrate through the fabric, still giving an open, airy feeling even while the roof is closed.

When the two equally-sized roof panels, containing this special translucent material, slide towards the north and south end zones, they create an opening that is approximately 240 feet wide by 360 feet long and fully exposes the playing field. The Cardinals Stadium's retractable roof was opened for the first time on December 3, 2005.
